Rev. Cynthia Van Alstyne
Reverend Cynthia Van Alstyne currently volunteers for Family Benevolence Services Inc., a
social services agency in Troy that deals with the forgotten members of our community. She is
a person of the community having lived in the City of Troy for over four (4) years. Over these
years she has had her ears and hands on the ground helping various groups with food drives
and pantries, counseling, housing, and advocating court cases of various kinds. Her work has
led her to believe that a change must be made in how we service the diverse needs of our
community members. Seeing those needs pushes her to be a voice for the voiceless. As a
single parent she has raised 3 men and remembers the struggles of clothing, feeding, and
educating them while making sure each of them stayed on the right track. She is happy to say
that all her sons are productive members of society with no criminal records. Cynthia: “If I can
do that for them, then it would be my pleasure to do it for the greater community”.
